Assessments & Grading

All grades are based on a point system.

Averages can be calculated by dividing the points you earn by the points that are possible and then converting to a percentage.

Entrance/Exit Quizzes - NOT announced - Entrance quizzes (at the beginning of class) and exit quizzes (at the end of class) will be given to make sure students are keeping up with the understanding of the material and are meant to "catch" students before they "fall" - range from 20-50 points, depending on the amount of material on the quiz (no corrections on these quizzes)

Quizzes - Quizzes will range from 50-100 points and will be announced ahead of time (quiz corrections can be made on some of these quizzes)

Tests - Tests will be worth 100-150 points and will be announced ahead of time (corrections can be made on these tests) - These tests will typically cover 1-2 topics.

Unit Tests - Will be out of 200 points. Students will receive a study guide for these tests and class time will be spent reviewing.  These tests will cover multiple topics (usually part with a calculator and part without) - (no corrections on these exams)

Homework - Assignments will be out of 5 points.  To achieve the full 5 points on any homework assignment, you must complete the assignment fully, in pencil, showing all work. Homework is based upon effort, not accuracy.

**Homework can be turned in late for a "late grade" of 3 out of 5 instead of 5 out of 5. The last day I will accept late homework is the day of the assessment for that topic.**

Problems of the Week - Students will receive a Problem of the Week on Monday of every full week of school.  The problem must be solved using both showing work and explaining in complete sentences. POW's are worth 10 points each.  Students may get help in class or come to extra help on Problems of the Week once they've showed an effort in trying the problem on their own.

Behavior/Class Participation - Students will receive a 10-point behavior/class participation grade each full week of school. Students are rewarded for being respectful and participating in class.

Extra Credit - There will be Khan Academy exercises that will relate to each topic we are covering in class.  Students can earn 1 point extra credit per exercise they "master" on the assigned Khan Academy exercises by the given due date. Students will have roughly a week to complete the Khan Academy exercises.  There may be other extra credit opportunities besides Khan Academy.
